Definition
Let's start with the definition of documentation.In order to understand documentation, the answer to the question "what is a document?" must first be known. Paul Otlet and La Fontaine, the first users of the term documentation, described documentation as "collecting information about documents and organizing them rationally." Later, in his work "Traite de Documentation" (1934), Paul Otlet slightly changed his previous definition and defined the document as follows: a process that is followed from the moment the document comes out of the author's pen until it enters the upswing of the reader or the learner." Purpose
After the 1950s, documentation centers established to provide faster search information for scientists and researchers configured under information centers to provide much better service to their users, and their areas of responsibility expanded. The task of these centers is to quickly and reliably answer the questions of highly specialized people and to provide users with selected, evaluated and verified concrete information products.
Reasons for the Emergence of Documentation Centers
* As is known, there is an information explosion today, resulting in large increases in the number of information sources. * Requests/requests of scientists and researchers to access up-to-date information on the subject they are investigating faster. * Libraries are inadequate to meet such a demand. * Advances in technology. (Technological developments accelerate the production of scientific resources.)
Development
By recording the information produced after the invention of the article, libraries were established to store this information and for the benefit of those who need it. In the early days, libraries were also used as documentation, information and archives. Already in general, libraries were located in temples or palaces. Johann Gutenberg developed the printing press, the invention of the Chinese, in the 15th century. In this way, the number of resources began to increase. In addition to scientific developments in the Second World War and its aftermath, the increasing number of scientists led to an increase in scientific publications. After the 1950s, documentation centers were structured as information centers to expand their areas of responsibility and provide much better service to scientists and researchers.
